The Crazy Life of a Teenager

Well, it has been almost two weeks since my last post. I wanted to right but could never seem to find the time in this crazy life of mine. I started playing football this year. I used to play soccer then gave that up for several reasons. I realized that I needed more activities if I wanted to get into a college so I took up football. I have come to realize that it is possibly the biggest waste of time in the world. Here we are spending all this time practicing and working hard for nothing more than school pride. It doesn't matter how smart the school is or anything like that. Students measure themselves based on how well they do in football. I just don't see the point. Kids these days are under more pressure than ever to do as much as they can in the short amount of time that they have it. I am so busy with everything right now that I basically go to school, go to practice and games, then come home and relax for a little while and fall asleep. I really don't have a lot of time for fun anymore. Kids are under a ton of pressure to do these things and I'm sick of it. I think the school needs more actvivites that don't require as much time. This way we can have more social time. I was told when I started High School that time would go by extremely fast. I wasn't told that all the socializing they told me to do would be the hardest part.

Homespun Days

So today is Homespun Days in the little old town of Zanesville. What used to be a fundraiser for a simple little church has now turned into the biggest garage sale on the planet. I can remember a time when we first moved here it was actually a very fun time. There were games and other activities that could be used to entertain children and it was basically like one big street fair. I have heard stories of how it used to be even before I moved here. It used to have music and all sorts of other activities that the entire town could participate in. But now, a different church is controling it and it has turned into one big garage sale. It is kind of funny though. Melba, the town like mayor or something like that, can't seem to understand why the town won't get involved in stuff like this. I can answer that. It's because, for one, she isn't allowing the town to move forward. She's not appealing to the younger generation. The second is because there is nothing for the parents children to do. All they have to do is walk around with their parents looking at all the junk that people are trying to sell on this hideous day. Now many of you have no idea what I'm talking about, but for those of you who do I appreciate your sympathy.

The Cellular Phone Era

Ever since the dawn of time, mankind has always been in an era. Starting with the Stone Age all the way through the Information Age, which is our present era. The question I have is whats next. We have all sorts of new technologies out there and I was wondering what what the next era would be. I think that the next era is going to be the cell phone age. I don't know about other parts of the country but in my school just about everyone carries their cell phone around school. The thing is we technically aren't suppose to have them on us at all but there are tons of people who not only have it with them but have them on and text during and between classes. We are slowly moving to becoming dependent on cell phones. There are families who has a cell phone that they use as home phones. T-Mobile recently came out with the T-Mobile for home service. We are becoming more and more advance with this technology and seen enough we will be completely dependent on our phones. We can already use them to get on the internet, take pictures, text, and make calls on them. What other features can we have on them. It's amazing to me how we are becoming dependent on them. Because like 15 years ago people made fun of you for having a cell phone but now just about anyone on the street has one. THINK ABOUT IT!

Spanish

So I'm a High School student which means I need all the blow off classes I can get. I decided to take Spanish 1 last year and have moved on to taking Spanish 2, currently, and Spanish 3, next semester. I find the way that they teach Spanish in school ridiculous. We learn by basically memorizing words, learning how to conjugate verb, and make complete sentences. This is pointless because for the most part I won't have to know how to say a complete sentence to get my point across. I'm not just some kid who thinks this because I think it would be easier. I believe this because I have been to Nicaragua twice since I was an 8th Grader. I'm currently a Sophmore and went to Nicaragua last summer. We did spend more time communicating and learning the first year I went but we still did learn some new things the last time I went. Now, neither year did I have to know how to make a complete sentence or know how to conjugate a verb. I'm not saying that we shouldn't learn how to do these things but I think we should learn how to do conversation first. This way the students are interested in learning because we are learning how to communicate with our fellow classmates and how to communicate basic ideas. Then when we have those down we can start learning how to do more complicated things. Like when we learn English. When we learn how to talk we don't start by just learn how to say the things we want. Then we move on to complete sentences and our vocabulary expands as time goes on. Now I understand this won't work exactly like learning to speak because there aren't a lot of other people speaking the language around you, but I think that more kids would learn better. I'm pretty sure that I would have remembered more of it if I had been learning something that I wanted to learn. It Just makes sense.

The Olympics

So the Olympics are over and my dad and I have been talking about the flaws in the Games. People have been talking about different sports that are being removed or may be added to the Games. I believe they are focusing on the wrong sports.

First what is this ridiculous sport called synchronized diving. If your not good enough to make it into diving by yourself then you shouldn't be in the Olympics. The second is the gymnastics portion. Now I'm not saying we should completely get rid of Gymnastics. I agree it takes a lot of skill and amount of strength so let me specify which I am referring to. Rhythmic Gymnastic is ridiculous. It's some drop out Ballet dancer who carries a Hula Hoop around and dances. I don't understand who in the world was like, "O let's make this an Olympic Sport!" Whoever it was was a retard. I also believe that we need to tweak the rules for the floor exercise stuff. I think we need to allow the gymnast like 5 runs across the mat and that's what their scored on. All this stuff in between is pointless and just plain boring. Another huge problem I have accepting as an Olympic sport is Synchronized swimming. That's all I have to. There are not enough words to explain my displeasure as far as this being an Olympic Sport. If this is a sport why don't we make poker an Olympic Sport. I mean it takes a certain amount of skill to lie with a straight face so why not make it a sport.

O I'm sure there is more I could find that I could complain about like the fact that in cycling they have a scoring process. What the heck is that about. So just because I'm the fastest racer doesn't mean I get the Gold. I also hate the scoring process in wrestling because I watch it and think, "there's a point. There's another one." But they don't always count them as points. So I think we should forget all the scoring and the first person to get pinned or surrender loses. The same with boxing. Forget the scoring just let them go at each other.

Rock Music

My generation has a lot of things going for it. We tend to have a better knowledge of Technology, we have cells phones, and have way more information to live our lives by than ever before. Unfortunately, we have one major flaw, or at least it's major to me. When it comes to music most of my generation seems to lose all ability to think. Kids these days don't understand what makes up good music.

I understand that some of it is taste but most if not all heavy metal is bad. I have never heard any heavy metal song where I listen to it and go, "hmm. That's good music!" No a heavy metal band is made up of a couple of guys who learned how to play three notes on a guitar and thought, "Hey! we could write a song with these notes!" They play loudly have no talent and can't sing, so they scream. This is why we should ban all heavy metal. Don't try and say there are different kinds of heavy metal like melodic or whatever. It is very very hard to seperate these. They all sound the same. I will however give you hard rock. Not quite as loud, the people are much more talented and they can sing. I like only one hard rock band, Egypt Central.

Now that we've cleared that off of the agenda then we can move on to the guitar. Most people listen to someone shred on guitar and think, "WOW!! he's a good guitar player!" This is incorrect. The makings of a good guitar player is not how fast he can shred. I'm sure we could train a monkey to do that. What we need to listen for is the sound coming out of the guitar. Most really good guitarist are not shredders. They can play there instruments well and know how to make the speaker, or whatever your listening to, have it's own sound. I honestly believe i grew up in the wrong generation because I'm not a fan of hardly any new music. I like Nickelback, and 3 Doors down, Three Days Grace and that's about it. The rest of the stuff I really like is from back in the day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, all the greats. I love music and it bothers me when we have so many people who aren't smart about it. I don't care really what you guys have to say, Heavy Metal sucks and you need to learn how to listen to real music.

School and the People It's Not Serving

I enjoy talking about this school thing because I, or at least i think so, have some good ideas about it. I understand that the state of Indiana has it's own ideas as to what we need to learn, and for the most part i completely agree with them. The problem are the extra elective classes. I'm sick of taking technology classes and finding out that everything I am doing in there will be something that for the most part i know what to do. There are no classes that actually teach me about computers. I enjoy working with them. I enjoy taking them apart and putting them together and finding out whats wrong with them after we take them apart. It's a fun thing for me to do because I'm a problem solver. I also love learning about new programs that i can download to the computer or other things i can do with them. Like virtual computers. I recently learned about these things and love learning all the things i can do with it. The thing is the majority of this learning that i am doing is being taught to me a family friend of ours. As a school they should be talking to the students and finding out what we want to learn. I believe more kids would be interested in the subject they are learning about if they could look at the class list and say, "Hey! I suggested that we should have a class like that." They may be even more likely to learn something. This could in that sense inspire kids to do better in other course because of other requirements for that course if they wanted to continue in this field in college. It just makes sense that when kids are willing to learn they actually try and learn something. Sure we may not having every student passing with straight A's but we may have more students who are at the very least trying their hardest in class. What do you guys think? Am I crazy or is my thinking logical?
